 ABOUT

174 Americans die of a drug overdose each day. We must bring opioid addiction treatment to where the users are: primary care clinics, emergency rooms, drug courts, syringe exchanges. Organized by the Florida Node Alliance (FNA), this one-day symposium brings national experts together to present the science of medication treatment for opioid addiction in non-traditional settings. The FNA, housed at the University of Miami, Miller School of Medicine, is one of 13 nodes, or centers, of NIDA's Clinical Trials Network (CTN). Under the leadership of Drs. José Szapocznik, Daniel Feaster, Lisa Metsch and Viviana Horigian, the FNA counts with more than 17 years of experience developing and testing interventions for substance abuse through the implementation of rigorous randomized clinical trials in real world settings. Through partnerships with health systems, community-based specialty treatment providers, and practice-based research networks, UM scientists aim to develop, validate, and implement clinical trials that are practical, innovative, and relevant to drug abuse screening, early intervention and treatment for a broad range of populations affected by drug misuse.

The symposium is being sponsored by The L&L Copeland Foundation, the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine, the Florida Node Alliance, the Miami Clinical and Translational Science Institute (CTSI), and the Miami Center for AIDS Research (CFAR).
